【英文口說小教室】期望?希望?hope和wish的差異在哪裡?

大家會不會覺得看到英文的‘希望’或‘期望’做什麼事情的時候，

有許多中文翻譯很相似的字，但他們之間還是有些許的差異，

以下就來介紹”hope” ”expect” “wish” “look forward to” 這幾個字的差異！

Hope

一般指內心期待或希望事情發生，但不知道是否會發生。

例句： I hope I can win the championship this year.

John hopes that he can get a promotion this year.

Expect

一般指內心的期待，而且有幾分把握期待的事情會發生。

例句： Mary is expecting her best friend to pick her up before 10 o’clock.

Peter expects the package will arrive today.

Look forward to

指高興或是興奮地期待事情發生，to後面的動詞需要加ing。

例句： He is looking forward to talking to Lisa again.

I’m looking to hearing from you soon.

Wish

一般與假設語態一起用，除了「但願」的意思外，也可以代表祝福他

例句： I wish I could learn guitar, but I’m too busy at school and too tired after school.

I wish you a happy marriage.
